The frequency is an important parameter of operation of the power system, which stability reflects the pros and cons of power quality, not only is it related to the security and economy of operation of the power grid, but also can make a direct impact on whether the electrical equipment can work normally or not and the level of product quality. When a large grid load changes suddenly, primary frequency regulation power system would serve a rapid support for active power, reduce secondary frequency regulation movements, and make the frequency of power grid stable, the role of grid frequency. Hydroelectric generating set accounts for one fourth of the capacity of the power system, which takes a very important role in the power system, and at present a number of hydroelectric generating set's primary frequency regulation performance is bad, even does not have the primary frequency regulation function, so it is necessary to examine the unit's primary frequency regulation parameter through the field test, and optimize the performance of the unit's primary frequency regulation.At present the primary frequency regulation experiments of hydroelectric generating set are not ripe yet, regulations and the information on primary frequency regulation provided almost all of the terms of the thermal power unit, the primary frequency regulation about hydroelectric generating set is rarely involved, and the test guidelines are brewing, there isn't unfied test method, and the related test equipment is lacked. By using the primary frequency regulation test system of the hydroelectric generating set, which was developed by Matlab itself, the field test is completed in this paper. By analyzing the way of realizing the primary frequency regulation function for the hydroelectric generating set, and the relationship between its performance and the regulation parameters of the governor can be obtained; As to combined with the simulation test, that the influence of the fluid inertia time and the movement speed of main servomotor to the performance of the primary frequency regulation for hydroelectric generating set can be obtained. Based on detailed analysised the primary frequency regulation requirements, test methods and examination indexes of hydroelectric generating set primary frequency regulation, a test system of hydroelectric generating set primary frequency regulation was developed, which was used for primary frequency regulation test of hydroelectric generating set in a hydropower station.Through analysised the test data, showed that frequency-measurement of governor should be added in technical index, and magnitude and direction of frequency step should be regulated when used frequency test to exam primary frequency regulation dynamic response index of hydroelectric generating set. Some references could be provided to make primary frequency regulation of hydroelectric generating set and perfected the technical index.
