Failure of seepage is a common problem of earth dams. It is harmful to the safety of the dam when the seepage is serious. Among all the fatal accidents, the fatal accidents of earth dams made up the biggest share, accounting for 47.8 percent of the total. Because of some historical reasons, more than 90 percent of the builded dams are the earth dams, and most of them have already reached or will reach the design working life. So it is vital to study seepage problems of dams.This paper is based on seepage reinforcement project of Erwangzhuang reservoir. Model test, analysis of finite element and analysis of the prototype observed data are made to study impervious effect of the project. Model tests of different cross-sections were taken, different cut-off walls with different permeability coefficients are considered, the comparison of original dyke and reinforced dyke are made; the software Geostudio2004 and Adina are used in the finite element analysis, the calculated results of them are anatomotic, the 2-D steady seepage is studied; Based on the prototype observed data provided by Erwangzhuang Administrative Bureau of Water Diversion Project from Luanhe River to Tianjin, piezometer level hydrograph and piezometer level related curve are drawn, the reliability of data is analyzed based on related theories.The results indicate that the reinforcement project can meet the technical specifications. The phenomena of serious leakage, high level of fixed escaping point, accumulated water in carriage way are improved. The simulation of the reinforcement project used finite element software is perfect, the result can be the reference of design and construction; through analysis of the prototype observed data, working sate of piezometers in the dyke have been analysed, overall construction effect are good.
