Substation main electrical connection is the important part of power system whose whether it reliable operations has terribly significant effect for the safety and stabilization of power system. Quantitative analysis for the reliability of substation main electrical connection is the important tache for research on the reliability of power system, which has significance in ensuring the safety of substation and operation reliably, advancing component's utilization ratio, arranging examination and repair designedly and so on. For a long time, people have carried on the massive research works and proposed all kinds of main electrical connection reliability models and analysis methods in this domain.In this paper, on the base of the significance of substation main electrical connection reliability analysis and the research status at home and abroad are introduced, interrelated concepts and the main contents of substation main electrical connection reliability analysis are introduced in detail. The main contents include reliability analysis for various indexes and formula; component's reliability model and formula. The non-independence of breaker rejecting act is considered when the model is set up and power supply continuity and power supply adequacy are considered to choose reliability indexes. Existing substation main electrical connection reliability analysis methods are analyzed and their excellence, shortcoming and applicable object are summarized.A method to analyze substation main electrical connection-the minimal cut-set method based on adjacency matrix is proposed in the consideration of many kinds of influence factors. This method stores the network structure of substation main electrical connection by adjacency matrix; then finds out all minimal paths to compute minimal path sets which are used to compute minimal cut-set and judge which component fault can lead corresponding inlet and outlet wire of substation to stop run by minimal cut-set; finally computes fault state set and makes use of component's reliability parameter to compute the connectivity and adequacy index of substation, which satisfies with a certain reliability rule in an appointed operation mode. The computing program of this algorithm is compiled by MATLAB and the three common connection mode substation are computed. The characteristic of this algorithm and further research problems are discussed in the end of the paper.
