China is one of the largest countries of producing and using motorcycles, motorcycle emissions result in a relatively larger ratio of vehicle emission pollutions, badly polluted the atmosphere environment. At present, carburetor motorcycle faces the fate to be eliminated. It's the electronically controlled injection system that will replace them. EMS technology used in motorcycles is the optimal solution for motorcycle emission, recognized by worldwide; it is the essential method to meet the Euro 3 standard of emission legislation.To replace carburetor with electronically control technology can improve burning efficiency of the engine, making the engine operation at the optimal condition whenever. Substantially increasing engine performance and providing the optimum catalyst operating window, it's one of the measures to totally resolve issues of fuel economy and emission pollution. Simultaneously EMS motorcycle engines utilized the fuel more effectively; to greatly decrease the fuel consumption demonstrated better fuel economic performance. Therefore, it's a trend that EMS motorcycle will get more and more popular.The paper presents the development of the electronic management system technology for motorcycle in China and other countries, and introducing EMS fundament and modification for four-stroke motorcycle. EMS is the new technique for motorcycle. And most of motorcycle engines are single cylinder and air cooling. So the calibration guideline is developed now and researched. And it is different from mature calibration methods of vehicle. The paper presents fundament analysis of the function model. And we learned the calibration guideline of EMS engine on bench. Finally the paper also briefly demonstrated continuous tasks of project calibration.
