Along with the strict emissions regulation and the raising price of fuel, it is very hard for the traditional carburetor-fueled engines to meet the requirements of high power, low fuel consumption and stringent emissions regulation. It is well known that the electronic controlled fuel injection system is the only and the best way to meet the needs.Based on LX200 motorcycle (using carburetor-fueled engine of LC163FML) made in Chongqing Loncin Industry (Group) Co.,Ltd, The task of this project was to make exhaust emissions fulfill the Stage-III emissions regulation with power output and fuel economy trade-off. The main research works were as follows: (1) Determination of the control objectives, including engine air-fuel ratio and ignition timing as basic control elements at engine certain loads. (2) Development and integrated application of EFI system components. The EFI engine was developed by engine intake system optimization, magnetic rotor prototyping, addition of various sensors, etc. Meanwhile, the vehicle fuel supply system was redesigned and the three-way catalytic converter was matching for LX200 EFI motorcycles. (3) Calibration of the EFI engine parameters: the estimated fuel-injection and ignition timing were optimized by calibration testing, and final fuel injection and ignition timing MAP were downloaded ECU.(4) Optimization of the vehicles'parameters in all kinds of running state, including start-up, quickly accelerated, etc. and then downloaded the optimized parameters into ECU.(5) Environment testing, including high temperature, low temperature and altitude, modified related parameters and verified the self-learning function of ECU.This project was involved in the integration application of EFI technology for motorcycle emissions control. After more than two year's hard work, the project have been finished and reached its purpose. The achievements were helpful to find the best way for motorcycle EFI technology application and improve the products and technology level in Loncin Company. It is also benefit to establish the good foundation for the following EFI application on Loncin other motorcycles in the future.
