The intersection of urban road is the crucial element of the urban road traffic network and a bottleneck of the urban road traffic too. Among them the signalized intersection is a main form of the urban intersection. To city highly developed in area, it is a problem needing badly being studied that how to fully utilize the existing spatial resource of the urban signalized intersection, in order to realize the high-efficient, secure, orderly running of the road traffic. The thesis exactly based on this problem researches to the spatial optimization design of the urban signal intersection.The thesis analyzes the form, application type, geometric structure of the signalized intersection at first, traffic conflict and traffic capacity of signalized intersection are carried on concrete research to, and the research range of the signalized intersection is defined. On this basis, according to the actual conditions of the urban road traffic of our country, the content, goal, principle and step of the space optimization design of the urban signalized intersection are proposed; the basic design parameter of the signalized intersection is analyzed. Secondly, on the basis of synthetically considering the relation between the approach lane, the exit lane and the road section lane, the thesis studies the lane function split method. On this basis, to the different trip mode of the city, the thesis further studies the concrete channellizing method and the enforcement measure of the urban signalized intersection, Then, the combination and optimization of the resources of space-time are analyzed and researched. In the fifth chapter, the thesis rationally chooses and quantizes every evaluation index of the spatial optimization design plan of signalized intersections, following the comprehensive evaluation index model is elicited. Finally, taking the Wulukou signalized intersection in the district of Xi'an Ming Dynasty City Wall as an example, applying the theory and method studied in this thesis, Wulukou intersection is carried on concrete spatial optimization design.
