In recent years, with the growing number of motor vehicles, the pressure to roadtraffic is more and more big.The intersection is the bottleneck of city road traffic,andit is at the core position of the city traffic,often restricts the service level of road andthe whole road network. All kinds of traffic flow (including motor vehicles,non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians, etc.) in the plane intersection continue tosplit, merge and cross,they lead to a variety of traffic conflict and traffic accident, sothat the traffic situation is even more complicated. Therefore, improving theefficiency of traffic intersection has become an important measure to relieve thetraffic congestion and traffic tension. The set of intersection which is reasonable ornot plays a direct and critical impact to the smooth of the entire road network. Fromthe small level, the city road intersection affects people’s travel efficiency and travelexperience; from the big level, it relates to the rational use of land resources, theimprovement environmental pollution and the increase of national economy andsocial economic benefit. So it is very important to optimize and improve the capacityof the intersection of city road.This paper is based on the analysis of the intersection traffic operationcharacteristics and intersection conflict mechanism, and referred to research results ofmany scholars in domestic and foreign, and conducts a comprehensive analysis andstudy in channelization and signal timing two aspects in the plane intersection of cityroad, in order to optimize and improve the problem of traffic congestion in urban roadintersection and improve people’s travel efficiency and people’s travel quality.The paper is analyzed from the angle of traffic conflict and builds the trafficconflict degree model and divides the traffic conflict degree level. In the aspect ofsignal intersection channelization, the paper summarizes intersection channelizingmethod, includes four aspects: the set of left turn lane, the set of right turn lane,thechannelization set of non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians, traffic island and guideline, and conducts conflict analysis of each channelized method; in the aspect ofsignal intersection timing, the paper selects the signal period, green light interval, theminimum green time and the effective green time to optimize. Finally, the paper combines with the specific case to study, and puts forward the correspondingimprovement strategy.
