The static and dynamic method is the two ways of designing caisson breakwater. The static design method wards off sliding and vibration by using a safety factor, ignoring the dynamic characteristic of breakwater. Compared to the static design method, the dynamic design method takes the dynamic characteristic of breakwater into accout and it is claasified into two categories, one with no sliding and rocking motion allowed and the other controlling sliding distance and rocking angle.Adaptability of the static design of breakwater in different depth under random wave, along with the distinctness between static and dynamic analysis, becomes a question for discussion as a result of the development of economy sharpening more breakwater set up in deepwater.Five breakwaters in different depth are designed basing on the static method in this paper and the validity of the analysis of mass-spring-damper model in different depth is proved by using the widely used software ABAQUS. After that, dynamic analysis of breakwater in different depth under random wave is carried through using mass-spring-damper model `and the adaptability of the static design is discussed through working over the difference between static and dynamic analysis.The main contact in the paper is as follows:1. Five caisson breakwaters has been designed in different depth, ranged from 10m to 30m , basing on the traditional static method.2. A procedure of random wave has been generated by the wave spectrum. By using the improved time history of wave force, A random wave force procedure is built up.3. The validity of the analysis of mass-spring-damper model in different depth is proved by using the widely used software ABAQUS.4. Analysis of the dynamical characteristic about caisson breakwater exposed to random wave effect in different depth is produced, using mass-spring-damper model.5. Compare the results of static analysis and dynamic analysis, and get the distinctness of static design method and dynamic analysis.
