Study On The Group Architectural Creativity Mode In Chinese Urban Renewal Process

"Group Architectural Creativity"which can be referred back from the architectural exhibition in 1927 in Stuttgart, has a long history and distinctive features. It is widely concerned in the architectural field because of its experimental and pioneering characters. Since the first Chinese group architecture practice, the Commune by the Great Wall, in China 2002, there have been nearly 20 similar projects designed and built up throughout the country in just a few years. The types of these projects are more and more diverse. The scope of the architects involved also become more and more widely. For a time, the group architectural creativity is highly developed in China by the concerning of the media. Especially in recent years, the group architectural creativity model has been used to solve problems in urban renewal process. Based on the analysis on characters and operation method of group architectural creativity mode, this paper will clarify its prominent advantages in urban renewal process.There are a lot of problems in Chinese urban renewal process, especially when the"Large-Scale Renovation"method is timely proved to be not so successful by practice. As this process damaged fabric of the precious old cities'culture and view were damaged during the renovation, making the old cities'culture and scenery, it also demolished old cities'identifiable originals. How can the group architectural creativity mode wok bring new vitality? Based on the development of the group architectural creativity, this paper compared Chinese group architectural creativity with ones practiced in other countries in order to sum up advantage & disadvantage and find out how to improve it. The paper also analyzed the orientations of each participant in the group architectural creativity, in order to find out their cooperation mechanism and induced more reasonable operation pattern for the future.The project of Qianmen Conservation & Restoration can offer us a further evidence which can prove advantages of the group architectural creativity mode in urban renewal process. The differences between theory and practice explored by this paper will contribute to a promoted group architectural creativity mode.
