In nowadays of information times developing rapidly, there is a self-identifiable problem of globalization process in China. In urban planning and architecture domain, to recognize history and region again is demanded very urgently.The thesis analyzes the character of architectural region through two aspects: the relation between zone and material environment and the relation between zone and spiritual culture, at the same time, the thesis begins with the two aspects and solves the problem of architecture region in rebirth of old cities with the help of the ways of picture analyzing and historical culture studying through typology, urban morphology, construction study and ecology.The three outstanding examples in rebirth of the old cities in our country are also cited such as the alteration of Juer Bystreet of Beijing presided by the famous academician Liangyong Wu, the change of lane "New World" in Taipingqiao District of Shanghai and the plan of Wenxinyuan of Phoenix Town to prove the analysis and opinions to the rebirth of old urban zone cognized and expressed in the thesis individually.The essence of expressing the character of architectural region is to emphasize the continuance of history in rebirth of old city. The author attaches importance to constructing a frame of cognizing analysis and rebuilding architectural region in rebirth of old city and induces its policies and ways that can be realized combined with several typical projects, and sums up the policies and ways of rebirth of architectural region in old city in the end.
