Study Of The Historic District In The Protection And Renewal Of The Spirit Of Place

In case that urbanization has developed highly nowadays, cities across the whole countury are all engaged in large-scale project, their apparances are changing rapidly as time goes by. At the same time,the rapid update of the city has caused great threat to many interesting ancient street traditional urban fabric and regional characteristic culture in cities. What was prominent to us is the problem that all the cities appear the same and none of them has its own individual.Based on spirit of place, this article is focused on analysis of creating a spirit of place in the aspect of historical block protection and renewal.Taking Qianmen Avenue for example, combining urban imago, other research methods and various social groups'questionaires and different cognition degrees, it makes an attempt to explore a more rational and scientific research method, based on the analysis of internal structures and embodiments of the spirit place about Qianmen Avenue before and after restoration, to revive the spirit of place about historical blocks, so as to meet the material and cultural demands of the citizens.The content of the article is mainly divided into three parts:The first part is leading-in. Firstly, it puts forward the background and significance, and summarizes the research activities about history blocks and spirit of place at home and abroad. The concepts and theoretics involved in the study are defined and introduced. Secondly, the spirit of place about history blocks is analyzed in the aspects of characteristic, constitute and embodiment.The second part is a subject section. Firstly, the internal structures of spirit place about Qianmen Avenue are analyzed, including before and after restoration. This analyses are represented in the aspects of natural environment, artificial environment and humanity environment. Secondly, the embodiments of spirit place about Qianmen Avenue are analyzed, including before and after restoration, which are represented in the aspects of historical cultural features, spatial features and community characteristics. Thirdly, various social groups are investigated with questionaires and interviewed, and then the different cognition degrees are summarized.The end is conclusion. It concludes from analyzing the spirit of place about Qianmen Avenue, sums up elements and principles which hold true for creating history blocks'spirit of place. At last a perfect complement is done for renovated Qianmen Avenue from the view of sprit of place.
