To build a freeway, planning is an important preliminary work. And, during the freeway building, it is also a valid tool for avoiding the randomness, blindness and repetition of the freeway building decision and network layout. In order to overcome the weakness of the traditional methods for the planning layout of the freeway network, for example, every method is good at solving some elements of the planning layout, The theories and methods of metropolis transportation corridor were presented for the freeway planning Layout and applied to the scheme determination of the planning layout of the freeway network in Tianjin.Firstly, the developing situation of the freeway in Tianjin and the structural character of the freeway network were introduced Problems of the freeway network in Tianjin were discussed. Then, based on the review of the freeway development and summarization of the experiences in developed countries, the current situation faced by the freeway development of the Tianjin was analyzed. According to the adjustment of the city distribution and the service needs of the traffic system in Tianjin, the connectedness method and the synthesizing-density analogy method and the traffic volume separating method were applied to determine the rational scale of freeway network of Tianjin. Finally, based on the analysis of the weakness of the traditional planning methods of the freeway network, the theories and methods of metropolis transportation corridor were used to the study of the freeway network of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei metropolitan circle. After the division of the passage level, the planning layout scheme of the freeway network of Tianjin was obtained in 2020. The results of this study can be for important reference to the planning layout of the freeway network of Tianjin and also has great value of application for other areas.
