Variant design is the primary method of product rapid design. Research on variant design is widely and prolifically. But they always focus on the geometry information. The rapid development of MDO needs a product model with tolerance information also, to achieve the aim of integrations. So, putting forward the method of variant design of tolerance model is imperious. This dissertation starts the research of tolerance and fit, variant design, and product model based on SML, puts forward the method of variant design of part family's tolerance model based on SML. The main content is as follows:In Chapter One, this dissertation explained that establishing unify model is the most important and difficult work on MDO. It discusses the situation of the variant design, puts forward the problem: more research is needed on tolerance information. According to these two points, it puts forward this dissertation's content and meaning. And the structure of this dissertation is given.In Chapter Two, it cites the theory structure of the variant design of part family's tolerance model. It analyzes the tolerance information in variant design. And the components and traits of part family's SML on tolerance are stated. It puts forward the methods to establish part family's tolerance main model. At last, the theory of the variant design of part family's tolerance model based on SML is given.In Chapter Three, the key technology of realizing the variant design of part family's tolerance model based on SML is given. The process of combining part family's tolerance main model to derive the part with concrete tolerance information is expounded. The tolerance knowledge base which gives decision analysis for establishing part family's tolerance main model is specified. And it states the structure of tolerance knowledge base and describes the rules in this base.In Chapter Four, according to the methods of establishing variant design of part family's tolerance model based on SML, mentioned above, it develops the system of this function. And the industrial steam turbine cylinder is taken for example to be certified in this system. Import the part into CAT for more certification.Chapter Five summarizes the achievements and innovations of this dissertation and prospects the future research in this field.
