Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP) is a bridge between CAD and CAM. It is one of the technical bases of many advanced manufacturing systems, improving the efficiency and level of process planning.Based on the theory at home and abroad CAPP status quo and development trend, and the lack of commercialization CAPP software at this stage. The main work that has been done in this thesis is as following:1. First of all, it outlines the theoretical study and application of CAPP in the current situation, development trend of CAPP study and the integration mode of CAPP in the integrated manufacturing environment. So the basis of CAPP system is established for this paper. Combining the research topics, it puts forward the major research work and the significance of this work.2. The characteristics of design resources and manufacturing resources is studied and modeled at first. Using artificial intelligence theory, the characteristics of process knowledge is analyzed and the classification, extraction, collating and expression of process knowledge are expatiated. Through the establishment of general model of process planning, the objective of resources integration is achieved. It focuses on the resource constraints, and the role of "Property Map" method in the general model for the whole process planning.3. Details on the process planning under the guidance of hierarchical planning method, mainly including how to use "multi-use technology" to establish typical processes, how to search similarity process in the use of the knowledge-based reasoning and examples, and how to create a new process through "Derivative Technology " method to enrich the typical process base. While the configuration of product processes is expounded, using process knowledge to achieve rapid calculation and manufacturing resource-assisted selection. 4. According to the actual needs of shock enterprise, the use of resources under the dynamic resource base is proposed, and multi-objective evaluation system on the process is established based on the of resource constraints. The rationality evaluation for process design, the feasibility evaluation for manufacturing and the application of processes optimization are studied in depth. The comprehensive evaluation of the merits of the programme has a great role on the actual production guidance, in particular in terms of time, cost, production scheduling, and so on.5. In MEPDM platform developed by of Mechanical Design Institute in Zhejiang University, a CAPP system is developed named MECAPP in the paper, with the features of technology-oriented product design, dynamic manufacturing resources and flexibility. MECAPP system's main function and operation is exhibited, taking the whole process planning of a kindof shock absorber products for example.Finally, the achievements and shortcomings of CAPP system are summarized; the expectation of the future work is also put forward.
