| With the rapid development of highway, how to ensure highway running at any time becomes an important issue. The highway running and management experience of all countries around the world shows that the fog is the most serious danger in the running of the highway in all unfavorable weather conditions. Nowadays, many kinds of measures are used to decrease or prevent the traffic accidents which are caused by fog. They are close highway, fog warnings and the automatic speed control system and the driver assistant system which is based on the technology of infrared ray, microwave and photography, etc. However, their shortcomings are obvious. Closing the highway will bring the loss of transportation and the inconvenience of going out. The installation and maintain of fog warnings and the speed control system will cost extremely much. If the driver assistant system based on the technology of infrared ray, microwave and photography were installed; all cars needed to be refitted and had to install this system. Thus this system is very difficult widely used in actual application.This paper analyzes some solutions which are used in domestic and foreign highway running in fog. Because of the reduction of the visibility in fog, this paper presents a solution which based on ARM9 and Linux's in embedded systems by combining the GPS positioning technology and ZigBee wireless communications technology. Its cost is relatively low. The solution will be of a better prospect for it avoids the modification of vehicles.The system is divided into two parts for development. One is the research on GPS positioning system based on ARM and Linux; another is ZigBee wireless technology research. Two persons will take part into the development process, and finish the two parts respectively. This paper mainly studies the construction based on ARM9 and Linux's embedded platform and GPS positioning data processing, and develops the MiniGUI procedures.This paper analyzes the relevant technologies for the system, including the process of embedded development, the basic principles of the GPS positioning, which provides the overall design of the system framework and the selection of hardware and software. In this paper, the high-performance ARM9 microprocessor and the GPS-24, which is GPS positioning module, are selected as the hardware, while the software is embedded Linux operating system which is the open-source software and optional. Moreover, MiniGUI, which is domestic and open-source, is selected by embedded GUI. Therefore, the paper focuses on the development of the embedded software. It firstly requires the embedded Linux operating system' construction, including Bootloader, kernel, and the root file system are made optional. Based on the above equipments, the development process of the MiniGUI-Lite's client and server is analyzed, and the interface is developed; the data which is received by GPS module is processed, the distance between two points is calculated. When the situation of warning is satisfied, the corresponding voice sounds.
