Aviation industry is the national strategic industry of P. R. China. The development of general aviation will play an important role in the progress of the whole country. The seaplane, as one of the general aviation aircraft, is a vacancy of China's general aviation industry. The main work of this thesis is to transform Y-12 to double-float seaplane, and present a layout of preliminary design.In this paper a serial of studies have been conducted:Firstly, according to the configuration characteristics of Y-12, the double float seaplane is determined, a preliminary design is present and the feasibility is demonstrated.Secondly, the model of the float for Y-12S is selected and the shape data has been calculated. The disposals of the floats'frames, as well as the shape of the float, have been designed.Thirdly, the modeling of the float has been set up using CAD software CATIA. Composite materials are chose to make floats. The external load, the thickness of the skin and frame has been calculated. The interior structure of the float is designed and analyzed.Fourthly, the center of gravity of the float and the position relative to the fuselage is determined. The stability and sink-resistance of seaplane Y-12S is analyzed; some flight performance of Y-12S are estimated;Finally, the formation and characteristics of the spray of seaplane is studied and the final configuration of preliminary design is obtained. The feasibility of transforming is analyzed and proved; Some problems about using seaplane Y-12S are discussed.
