| Along with the domestic automobile industry's development, the domestic vehicle navigation system's market demand is also growing. Some of the current domestic vehicle navigation and positioning system is not be widely used in the automotive system, we must improve technology to increase accuracy at the same time reducing the development costs.The vehicle navigation terminal combines navigation and positioning technology, geographic information system (GIS), communications technologies, as well as embedded computer technology provides its users with navigation and positioning and geographic information services. It is composed terminal by the GPS positioning system, the electronic map and the embedded system.The vehicle navigation terminal to receive GPS signals transmitted by satellite, by the immediate location of vehicles through the GPS signal processing system transmitted to the host, together with the Embedded Systems Spatial Database, the vehicle trajectory will be displayed on the screen.This paper first discusses the principle of the vehicle navigation system and the principle of hardware structure, then the analysis has designed software system's work flow and realizes the plan, and introduced Boot Loader and Linux kernel customization, transplantation; focused on the ARM processor and the Linux operating system to achieve vehicle navigation terminal and its functional modules of the detailed realization process, as well as map matching and path planning algorithm and realization.In order to shorten the product development cycle and reduce development costs, the design based on the use of open source software re-development the ways.
