The application of NLU technology in the design of mechanical manufacturingprocess is one of the most important and difficulty application of A.I. technology. Thispaper designed and realized abstract concept embodying system, which is based on theDomain Chinese Language Understanding System, and applied it in the mechanicalproduct design process. It accomplished the transition from the user's requirementexpressed by natural language to the designing requirement of the Concept Design ordesign parameter. And also it can embody the abstract concept of the user's requirement.So it realized a good exchange between the system and users, and provides a strongsupport for the following design.In this paper, firstly, some current methods and theories of NLU knowledgeexpression and the characteristic of natural language in design domain are presented andcompared. And it presents a method to express NLU discourse information, and appliedto the construction of NLU Discourse Knowledge Base. Based on the Knowledge Base,combined the results of semantic analysis and discourse analysis and the connectionbetween concepts of resource model , the method of abstract concept embodying isgiven, which includes confirming the domain ,seeking abstract concept, embodyingabstract concept and building interface. Based on the work done, we carry out theabstract concept embodying of the domain problem.Finally, the abstract concept embodying system is applied to analyze andunderstand the user's requirements of the mechanical product design process. Testedand debugged together with other parts of NLU system, its result turns to be satisfied.
