In recent years, the measuring approach using the means of alignment laser beam as the linear references has been of great development. Laser alignment technology has been widely used in shape error measuring, such as linearity, concentricity, flatness and parallelism. However, the precision of Laser alignment in testing of dual-long rails hasn't been improved, because of still using traditional tools of spirit bubble and micrometer, and fully manual operation method.A new kind of laser alignment instrument is designed to solve the problems existing in the measurement of dual-long rails. One beam form Laser is divided into two parallel beams, which shoot at the PSD targets on rails. When target slides, rail linear rate is reflected on the change of spot position. Data measuring subsystem calculate the real time spot position coordinates, and display the spot position coordinates on LCD.Regarding the advantage of wireless communication and USB technology, the assignment puts forward a kind of wireless USB data communication system, to complete the data transmission from measuring SCM to PC by using the RF chip nRF905 and USB100 module. The spot position coordinates are sent to the wireless station by RF mode simultaneously displayed on LCD, and then the data can be transferred to the computer. The applicable program is developed by LabVIEW, to realize the USB interface's data reading, to display the real time signal's motion, to save the measured data, and to calculate the linear error of the measured long rails.Electronic devices with value of small volume and low power consumption are used to design the measuring circuit, and Lithium Batteries are used as the power supply of the measuring circuit. It makes the instrument portable and testing easy. The experiments of calibration test, stability test, repeatability test and real testing of long rails have been done. The results indicate that the instrument can function well and the performances have met the designed expect.
