A Study On The History Of Guangxi Early-modern City Planning

The cases study in Guangxi Province comes from the Project of the State Social Science Fund——Study on the history of Chinese early-modern city planning (1849-1949) and the Project of the excellent youthful teacher of Ministry of Education——the historical study on Paradigms of Chinese early-modern city planning. This paper takes four cities what are Nanning, Liuzhou, Wuzhou and Beihai as the research objects, emphasizes on the study of development process of early-modern cities construction in Guangxi Province from the Perspective of history in city planning, researches the early-modern city planning practice and characteristics of four cities. Summarizes and compares the old city renovations with different times and cities on time, content, patterns, types and natures.The introduction emphasizes the significance of the topic research on the history of Guangxi early-modern city planning, is a part of early-modern city planning, concludes and arranges the historical materials of Guangxi early-modern city planning and construction, concludes and analyzes the domestic and international related present research . At first, The thesis from the perspective of the history of the city development, describes the formation of early-modern cities in Guangxi and its city planning and construction process, discusses the evolution of opening ports and the industrialization development and the city modernization. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters which are the main body of the paper, describes content and features of early-modern city planning, as well as the evolution of management organizations and system. At last, it through comparison of the four cities in several aspects such as the modern time, city planning and types, planning course and practice, city planning thought and connotation, summarizes the process, which goes though "Road Construction→Historic City Renovation→Experimental Regional Planning". It also researches summarizes that Guangxi early-modern city planning has "Street→Road→Road Nets" characteristics and "road city→sotto portico city→road city " morphology. The conclusion sums up the history of early-modern city planning in Guangxi, looks back the history and current situation of the old city renovations puts forward a development theory and review on protecting the old city landscape and embodying peculiar features to the city.This study aims to Guangxi early-modern city planning development and evolution, especially the research on city planning practice and planning which introduced the western urban planning theory and technologies into widen and straighten the streets to roads, open the gates and walls of cities, and built the road around the city for important manifestations, provides a reference for Guangxi even for Chinese city Planning and old city renovation in new Period.
