A Study On Beijing City Planning During Early-modern Period (1900～1949)

As a part of historical and theoretical research of Chinese early-modern city planning, this paper put great emphasis to study the changing process, content and practice of Beijing city planning during early-modern period, analyzes the characteristic of every period, takes some significant period into account, tries to reveal the characteristic of Beijing city planning and city development during early-modern period, discusses the academic value and modern reference as a feudal capital on Chinese early-modern city planning .The paper is composed of seven chapters:The first chapter discusses the object, purpose, significance, content, methods and form of the study, as well as the domestic and foreign present condition of the study on Beijing city planning during early-modern period.The second chapter describes the development of Beijing city before early-modern firstly, then analyzes the process and feature of Beijing early-modern modernization and urbanization, which to explain the condition of Beijing early-modern city changing and development, summarizes the character of it, displays the background of Beijing city planning during early-modern period.The third chapter reviews the periods of Beijing city planning during early-modern period, introduces the process and content of city planning in every period, then summarizes the character of it.The forth chapter dissertates the great alteration of Beijing by basal municipal construction from 1900 to 1930, discusses the composing of municipal administration and the changing of ideology, tries to analyze the reason of the great alteration of early-modern Beijing.The fifth studies the "new city" planning by Japanese, named the general outline of Beijing city planning, describes its contents, character, practice, analyzes the effect for succedent planning, tries to provide better experience for planning today.The sixth chapter reviews the feudal capital's influence on Beijing city planning and the influence of foreign planning's theories on early-modern Beijing, analyzes the paradigms, introduces the regulations and three factors of city planning , By studying on these facts, the main aim is to reveal the character of Beijing city planning during early-modern period.The seventh chapter is conclusion, which summarizes the evolvement, the types and the effect of Beijing city planning during early-modern period, then introduces the condition of development of Beijing modern city planning, at the same time, this chapter also puts some after studying, tries to offer the thought.t The paper purposes to gain an apocalypse from the study, provides a reference for future city development of Beijing and other modernized cities which have been feudal capital, makes the study has practical significance.
