In recent years, high-head navigation building flourishes in the wake of water and electricity development, which causes difficulty to the design of shiplock and ship-lift. In the research on filling and emptying system of culvert of water-saving shiplock used in water head diversion, the paper put emphasis on experiment of global hydraulic models on filling and emptying system of water-saving shiplock, we can get the following research result:1. In the scheme concerning shiplock with two water-saving pools, effective water heads were saved many times after water flow switch in the water-saving pool. So the water-saving shiplock scheme proposed in this paper effectively avoids the hydraulic problems of high-head shiplock, reduces the difficulty of valve working condition and shiplock berthing conditions.2. The process and result of the experiment shows in the scheme the assumption of water head diversion by 50% and water-saving rate by 50% is feasible and practical.3. The experiment comparison of modes of opening and closing valves, proposes the way of opening and closing valves(proposed scheme), that is Valves A,B in water-saving culvert open at 2.5 min, and close at 1.5 min, and the valve in major culvert opens and closes at 1 min. So the change of the water level in the water-saving pool is under control and a relative steady water heads in the valves make possible the decrease of complement water.4. Hydraulic characteristic result shows, when the valves opens and closes normally, the time of filling and emptying water in shiplocks is 10.80 and 11.42 min respectively. Considering scale effect, that is filling and emptying time of prototype shiplock will be shortened by 8-15%. The filling and emptying time of this lock scheme will be within 11min, to satisfy the designed filling and emptying time requirement of 12min.5. Province irrigation pond outlet lock chamber of the hydraulic characteristic curves and hydraulic characteristic curve similar to the provincial pool of water fluctuations on the control head outlet irrigation has little effect on the flow conditions are better.6. From the hydraulic characteristic statistics of water-saving shiplock we know, when the filling and emptying system works normally, the three peak values of the process of pumping and replenishing water are 126.291, 126.532 m3/s respectively, the three peak values of the discharge process are 120.08, 120.346 m3/s respectively.This experiment is the first filling and emptying system model designed, functioned and controlled in accordance with water-saving shiplock principles design, its fruit not only can be used as a reference for Yingpan shiplock design, also it can provide precious reference for water-saving shiplocks and high-head shiplocks design in our country in the future.
