Automotive dashboard is the most important and direct visible information platform for a driver. It plays a crucial role in driving safely, comfortably, and economically. With the development of automobile electronics, dashboard becomes an important criterion for measuring the performance and excellence of automobiles. In order to meet the increasing display demands from various devices inside vehicles, dashboards are proceeding to becoming comp evolutions rehensive information management systems. As the progresses made in both embedded system and auto-grade LCD technologies, it is possible and intended to build digital dashboards for automotives. In this thesis, a full-featured digital intelligent automotive dashboard system is designed. The design is based on CAN bus communication technology, TFT-LCD display technology, and embedded control technology.Discussed in detail in this thesis are the general infrastructure and implementation scheme of a digital dashboard system. Within the system, a LPC2478 ARM processor is used as its main controller; a CAN bus node unit is built inside; an 8 inch widescreen TFT-LCD panel is used as screen; the TFT-LCD display control is carried out via LPC2478 built-in LCD controller, thus resulting a very compact and cost-effective structure.μC/OS-II realtime operating system is ported to LPC2478 and proves running properly. To facilitate the dashboard graphical interface design, a graphical user interface (GUI) is designed. The final implementation of the digital dashboard is running on a multi-task environments onμC/OS-II. Also implemented in this thesis are several prototype ditigal dashboard templates.
