ESG (Electrostatic Suspension Gyroscope) is a major breakthrough in Inertial Sensor Technology field. It is the most accurate gyroscope which had been widely applied in the marine, vehicle, plane and aircraft navigation. ESS (Electrostatic suspension system) is a key component of the ESG which has direct impact to the accuracy of ESG. The solid-rotor ESG that based on the MUM (Mass Unbalanced Modulation) method is consist of rotor, measuring/Afterburning coupling transformer, bias supply, the rotor displacement measurement subsystem, executive subsystem, controller and H shaft location solver subsystem. It is a typical negative feedback position control system. Based on the analysis and discussion on the ESS, this paper presents a Digital Interface System of MUM-ESG (ESG-DIS) to facilitate the new ESS research and development. The Digital Interface System of MUM-ESG is able to obtain the information of ESS which in real-time running or experimental working status. It can help in the design of a new ESS or gives experimental support for improving the ESS, as well as providing an experimental environment for the application of various control algorithms.In the beginning, an analysis of the overall demand and function for the ESG-DIS is presented. The ESG-DIS is finally divided into five functional modules according to the modular design process. The main concern of the design is the high-precision rotor signal data acquisition technology of the MUM-ESG. The signal conditioning preamplifier circuit and filter circuit is designed to make the system meet the week signal measuring requirement. And the USB transmission method is applied to reach the greater scalability. This paper implemented the simulations of the signal conditioning module, data acquisition and transmission to pursue the best performance of the ESG Interface System. It chose the best control flow for the ESG-DIS after comparing the various control method for the firmware. The GPIF single word read and FIFO method can apply in the single/multiple single transmission respectively. The USB driver is customized for the ESG-DIS and Visual C++ 6.0 is used to program the Windows application.In a summary, the ESG-DIS can extend the main function of ESS for the laboratory use. It plays a positive role in the design process of ESS.
