Chinese shipbuilding industry has ranked frontal in the world since 1995, and the annual quantity of order taken by Chinese shipbuilding has ranked second of the world according to the range of single Country up to 2007. China has become a big but not strong shipbuilding Country, and there is still great distance in shipbuilding technology between China and Japan or Korea. The hull block assembly plays a significant role in the process of shipbuilding, and block assembly sequence planning (ASP) has direct effect on building efficiency of the hull. Block assembly sequence planning technology is researched based on this background, and the main content of this paper is as follow:(1) The development status in relevant fields of ASP is analyzed and summarized. Building method of plane double bottom block is researched, and the whole framework of hull block assembly sequence planning system is built.(2) On the basis of analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of existing hull block assembly sequence planning methods, a rule reasoning based expert system of hull block assembly sequence planning is established. The hierarchy tree and modified weighted diagraph are used to express block assembly information model. A rule library is built through summarization of experiences and knowledge during the course of hull block assembly, and then the final assembly sequence is gained by an approach of hierarchy reasoning.(3) An example of planner block is used, and its feasible assembly sequences are generated through expert system. Assembly process simulation of planner block is finished in the environment of DELMIA to validate the assembly sequences, and the report of intervene inspect as the base of part design and modification is gained through dynamic intervene inspect and static intervene analysis. Assembly process simulation is important foundation to evaluate hull assembly sequence.(4) A factor aggregate is built to evaluate hull assembly sequence based on the research of application of fuzzy theory in hull block assembly, and the hull block assembly sequence is evaluated with two-level fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. During the evaluating process, an approach of combination of subjective and objective evaluation is adopted to improve validity of evaluation result based on the assembly process simulation data.
