Chinese electrified railway construction has stepped into a newly-boom development phase. However, series of adverse influence of power quality imposed by electrified railway traction power supply system, such as voltage fluctuation&flicker, harmonics voltage¤t, negative sequence voltage¤t, reactive power etc, have been put more attention to research. Considering actual diversity about traction load level, exterior power supply level, connection type of traction transformer existed in different regions of China, series of numerical characteristic parameters of different traction load level electrified railway lines (single-line, double-line of high load level, double-line of low load level), and the influence of power quality imposed by traction load under traction substation operation are all worth to be researching. It will be a useful and helpful guidance to construct new electrified railways or traction substations under similar operational conditions, besides, to process simulation&calculation about traction load.In this paper, the main characteristics of traction load are discussed firstly. Next, series of numerical characteristic parameters of traction load based on quantities of traction substation's test data on different load level of electric railway lines are carried out statistics and analysis in details. Then depend on bar charts and distribution curves of different traction load level lines, to fit the traction load by applying common continuous distribution functions, and to sample the traction load randomly for simulation data of load by applying Monte Carlo simulation method. Consequently the load's simulation data process a transformation depended on exchange matrix of different connection types of traction transformer, to achieve the three-phase load's simulation data on primary side of traction substion, then to process the simulation and calculation of traction substation's operational characteristics related to some power quality index, and to be compared from the results calculated by test data. Finally, a brief analysis and evaluation for simulation&calculation's results is presented.The paper aims to present a new method for substation's operational characteristics based on statistics&analysis to quantities of test data, and on traction load's simulation data through fitting, sampling, transformation about test data.The method and parts of statistics or analysis presented in the paper will pave a basic way and offer a helpful guidance for further interrelated research.
