With the rapid development of China's petroleum industry, the electric-drive drilling rigs are more and more widely used in the drilling industry. However, most of the equipments in the rig's drive system are inductive loads, which have brought about the problems of low power factor and harmonic pollution that not only influence the electric energy quality but also disturb other equipment's operation. Therefore, the reactive power compensation and harmonic restrain of the drilling rigs have become a realistic and urgent task.Considering the respective disadvantage of Thyristor Controlled Reactor (TCR) and Thyristor Switched Capacitor (TSC), and according to the load condition of the rigs, the hybrid reactive power compensation device is designed, which is capable of compensating reactive power dynamically and restraining the harmonics effectively.In hardware design, this paper uses TMS320F2812 DSP as the core, designs signal conditioning circuit, phase locked loop, communication interface, drive and displaying circuits, which have the functions of signals sampling, power and harmonic calculation, switch of the capacitor and reactor, and Human-Computer Interaction, etc, resulting in the device's merits of high operating speed and real-time response. In software design, the control program is designed with C and assembly language, and the modularization method is utilized to make the program more universal and conveniently maintainable. About the compensation strategy, the reactive power strategy, compared with the power factor strategy, could avoid switching oscillation under light load condition and make the compensation more reasonable.The controller's prototype has been successfully developed. Preliminary tests show that the compensation controller (TCR+TSC) is a reasonable design which has the characteristics of fast response speed and high control accuracy, and its application has a good prospect.
