With the vigorous development of Chinese economy since the reform and open policy was carried out, the construction industry has become one of the most important key industries of China, but it is also an industry of high incidence of accidents that annually results in a large number of casualties and property losses. Construction safety issues should cause more and more attention and concern. The paper proceeds from the accident risk assessment, sums up 6 accident factors from 100 construction accidents cases occurred during the year 2000 to 2007, and it uses the methods of mathematical statistics to calculate the distribution frequency of the accident cause factors. Based on this, the paper creates judgment matrixes of relative importance and uses AHP to establish the mathematical model. There are three uses of the accident risk assessment model in practice. First is to analyze and evaluate the accidents that occurred, validate its accuracy and applibility; Second is to use the accident risk assessment model to evaluate the safety management of three subcontractors A, B, C and to determine the level of their safety management capabilities; Third is to use the accident risk assessment model to analyze and evaluate the safety situation of the project in building, assess the possibility of the accidents. Finally the paper establishes modification document databases on the systematic theory and the evaluation conclusions of the risk assessment model. From the perspective of construction contracting enterprises, the paper uses the method that combines qualitative and quantitative step by step to establishe and validate the accident risk assessment model. The author hopes that the incidence of accidents can be reduced and casualties as well as property losses can be decreased through the use of this model in practice; At the same time, it can strengthen the safety awareness of project management staffs and enhance the safety management capabilities of the constructional contracting companies.
