Research On The Repairing Crafts Of The Ancestral Temple In Xiamen

The ancestral temple is a of traditional building in the southern Fujian that has been preserved in the Xiamen.It is not only a concentrated expression of ancient Chinese clan culture,but also contains many traditional craftsmanship and building wisdom.The restoration and protection of the ancestral temple has always been the most important matter in the development of the family.At the same time,the restoration process also provides a platform for inheriting and continuing related construction techniques.The traditional craftsmanship,including woodwork,mud-water work,pile cutting,paint color painting,etc.,covered by the repairing process of the ancestral temple building in the Xiamen,and it is closely related to the traditional aesthetic interest,customs and habits of southern Fujian,that has high research value.However,with the developing of modern technology and the widespread application of modern materials,as well as the absence of outstanding traditional craftsmen and related research gaps,some ancestral temple buildings with cultural relics have suffered historical information damage and cultural relics protection during the repair process.Therefore,there is an urgent need to systematically investigate,record,and study the repair process of traditional temples in the Xiamen.The paper takes the several repairing projects of ancestral temple buildings in Xiamen area as the research object,which based on field investigation,combines the process records at the construction site and interviews with craftsmen,etc.The work includes systematic research on the roofing,ground,wall,large wood,small wood,pile cutting and painting,paint color painting,through the preparation work involved in the repair project,mud and water,woodwork and decoration.Based on this,combing with technological practices,structural stresses,and other conditions,analyzing the causes of common damages in the ancestral temple building;summarizing various problems existing in the current repair project and explore solutions;clarifying the differences and advantages between traditional and non-traditional repairing craftsmanship,summarizing the effective measures applied to the repairing projects,with a view to providing reference for the protection and repair of historical buildings in the Xiamen.
