In the long history of China's development,a great amount of traditional villages have been formed.However,with the influence from various factors such as location,climate and regional culture,the characteristics of those traditional villages are quite diverse.In southeastern Shanxi,there is a building group of the old castle type,which is rear to see in China.Its spatial pattern and architectural form are unique in China.The meaning of this kind of settlement is not only the settlement itself,but also the reflection of the settlement's development on the history trend.The traditional village of old castle embodies the features of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.In ancient society,under the patriarchal system,the production and living characteristics of the village are based on the society with ethnic groups which is on the basis of blood relationship or clan system.This kind of relationship between the village and the clan system had also been changing and developing with time.This passage is focusing on the southeastern Shanxi village of old castle,in the respect of different subjects such as architecture and sociology,with its spatial form as the pointcut,analyzing the village spatial form,architectural constructing features,patriarchal clan consciousness and conception,its defense system and the relationship between the old castles' interspace and the clan temples.Through detailed analysis and researches,this passage expounds the additional aspects,including architectural constructing features and clan ideology and cultrue.Finally,it analyzes the correct direction for current social develpment led by the old castle village and clan temple culture.
