As the developments of petrochemical equipments features large-size and complexity, the economic loss and social influence caused by equipments accidents has been more and more severe. To strengthen equipments management, and improve the reliability and safety of the operation of the equipments are especially essential to the enterprises. On the other hand, with the international market integration constantly deepening, and competition among petrochemical enterprises intensifying, it is a fundamental way for the surviving and developing of enterprises to lower the operational maintenance cost. Under the pressure of reliability, safety and more economical needs, it is a must that enterprises should seek to develop safer and more economical equipments maintenance methods in order to guarantee the long-period continual working of them, thus achieving nominal production capacity, lowering various kinds of consumption and avoiding the direct and indirect loss caused by the accidents.Reliability centered maintenance (RCM) is a systematic engineering method used to ascertain the predictive maintenance need of the equipments and optimize maintenance mechanism. It is based on the designing characteristics, operational functions, invalidations and result analysis of the equipments, with the aim of best promoting the utilizing reliability of the equipments, apply the available safety and reliability data to perform functional and fault analysis of the system, ascertain the results of various kinds of faults inside the system, and use standardized logical judging methods, determine the predictive strategies according to the outcome of the loss, so as to lay down reasonable maintenance plans or principles.In this paper, risk theory is merged into the method of reliability centered maintenance, set up fault mode risk evaluation matrix models suitable for petrochemical equipments, and establishes evaluation method including the impact of the faults on the production, condition, safety and maintenance cost. Based on this, the paper gives the logical judging method of how to determine the maintenance method and monitoring/detecting plan depending on the fault risk evaluation grade and property of fault origin.In order to standardize RCM analysis process and promote its efficiency and accuracy, systematic modeling analysis has been done on the RCM method, and RCM analysis software is developed with vb.net language. Through the batch and flexibility of RCM software system in terms of data processing, analysis time can be reduced, and the flow of RCM analysis and standardized management of equipments information can be realized. At last, RCM has been used in the ethylene equipments in a petrochemical company. Through the analysis of RCM software, the equipments importance analysis and fault risk analysis are acquired, thus maintenance strategy is devised.
