The product design among the designs of the electromechanical products becomes more and more important following the vary people' need. The geometrical digitization of real-object, rebuilding of CAD model, manufacture of products and molds are supported by reverse engineering (RE) during the procession of product design.Based on the general analysis of reverse engineering technology, the minor cycle reverse design program is concluded taken the motorcycle with two wheels as an example. Firstly, the design direction and target group are decided based on the market investigation and analysis for the present motorcycle modeling following the programmed and systematic methods. Secondly, the clay models are made according to the optimized schemes adopting RE method, the data are collected and the digital model is made using the matching software, and the CAD model is rebuild based on the spatial nephogram data model. Lastly, the design sketches are given with the 3Dmax and the schemes are optimized.Through the modeling design of the motorcycle with two wheels, the design method for production innovation adapting RE is introduced in detail around the physical model making, 3D data colleting and CAD model rebuilding. After the market investigation and analysis, the market for the motorcycle development is given, the conceptual design for motorcycle modeling is completed, the schemes are compared and chosen by function analysis and the full-size physical clay model is made. The 3D data are collected with Vivid 910 3D scanner, the STL data processing and CAD model rebuilding are accomplished with Imageware, Pro/E and 3Dmax.The innovation design can be used during the procession of conceptual design, physical modeling and 3D CAD model rebuilding. Using RE to finish innovation design is more favorable especially for the modeling of complicated products.
