The brick-wood structure is civil building type which is widely distributed in rural area of China. Due to lack of relevant code for seismic design, there substaintial differences in architecture design and construction procedure, which make their different seismic capability. As a result, it is difficult to evaluate its seismic performance, and, to some extent, this constrains improvement of seismic capability of civil building in China's rural area.Based on plentiful earthquake damage data, wall modal test and mechanics, this study used fuzzy mathematics methods and typical structural mechanics calculation to complete the following three aspects of main contant: 1. the analysis of earthquake damage to brick-wood building. That is to summarize the rule and characteristic of earthquake damage and analyze causes and mechanism of earthquake damage; 2. the analysis of seismic performance of brick-wood building. That is to indentify affecting factors of seismic performance, evaluate them quantitatively and to study the fuzzy relations between affecting factors and earthquake damage rating; 3. seismic performance evaluation and earthquake damage prediction of brick-wood building. That is to propose a fuzzy mathematics method in comprehensive evaluation, membership functions of affecting factors of earthquake damage to earthquake damage rating and apply the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method in seismic performance evaluation and earthquake damage prediction.In this study, four aspects of main research achievement were obtained as follows: 1. the earthquake damage of brick-wood building mainly include damage of wall and roof system, the brick-wood building's wall and roof system are recognized as the principal factors for seismic performance; 2. for brick-wood building, the aseismic performance index system of affecting factors was established, and more reasonable method was excogitated to calculate the index weights; 3. the fuzzy relationship between affecting factors and earthquake damage was established, and the membership functions between them was excogitated; 4. the methods of seismic performance evaluation and earthquake damage prediction were put forward, and made the quantitatively evaluating of seismic performance and probabilistic prediction of earthquake damage of brick-wood building possible.Some real examples proved that these methods worked effectively, and they can be further applied.
