The Study On Gated Communities At West Hangzhou From An Urban Design Perspective

The pace of residential development in China is growing fast since the housing reform, but the growth of gated communities is even in a higher speed. Those numerous self-enclosed communities influence the urban a lot. It is a great significance to analysis the external effects of the gated communities, and to find a way of how to reduce the negative ones. It's helpful to the development of the residential and the sustainable operation of the city.In this paper, West Hangzhou gated communities are the main study objects. The study uses four perspectives of urban design, studies the history, function, space and living separation by kinds of surveys to analyze the compacts and the reasons of the time, space, and social form of the city. Finally, based on the analysis of the development trend of gated communities, this study gives the urban design viewpoint conclusion: the integration of interactive with urban development, and the partial-closure with overall-open.
