Gratz once said: "the conservation of historic sites often conceals a fact that what we tend to repair is trivial to the whole city, and because of the small scope, these sites are hard to retain or once again become an important historical culture context of the urban structure." It reveals the common problems in the existing urban heritage protection. At present, the research of heritage protection is stand on a single basic perspective. It's difficult to finish the angle of a culture, economic, social and more problems. Compare to the heritage protection work in urban planning system, the eco-museum theory can save culture context from multi-angles. Eco-museum focuses on the development process instead of results. It not only displays environment, but also accept the transformation of social development. Eco-museum promotes the reborn of culture context with dynamic perspective and reproduction. It has more flexibility than the conservation of historic sites.Based on the status, this research discusses the feasibility of taking eco-museum as a new technology of the heritage conservation in the city. The thesis introduces the development and the practice activities of eco-museum theory in the world first, and then puts forward an idea to take this theory into the system of urban planning. Also, the author takes the area along the Grand Canal in Gongshu district of Hangzhou city for example to propose a planning method of Eco-museum constructing.
