The Beidaihe villas is the second-largest villas in China except the Lushan's villas. It's a typical celebrity villas for numerous people with lofty ideals had been living here since ancient times. The Beidaihe old villas'architectural styles are rich and diverse; but for the historical development and human factors, these valuable heritage of historic buildings suffered severe damage, the number dropped from 719 when the new China was founded to less than 150 current. So far, the protection and rehabilitation of these villas is not optimistic, and if there are not effective steps for their repairing and protection, we will lose these artistic and historic buildings for ever.This paper concludes the definition of"harmony"from the view of the ancient Chinese Confucianism, Taoism and Zen, and basing on the three main characters of harmony, demonstrates the impact on the three aspects of architecture, landscape, and urban space figuration of the Beidaihe old villas. It puts forward that the"harmony"theory should be apply to the protection of these old houses so as to take the road of sustainable development. This paper not only introduced the Chinese traditional culture into the modern theory system of architectural conservation, but aslo, based on the importance of the Beidaihe villas in Chinese architecture history and the theory of sustainable development, makes some feasible ideas for the protection of modern architecture. It hopes that the urban glamour of Beidaihe,even Qinhuangdao will be reflect, aslo some positive effect and significance ideas for the protection of similar buildings in other places will be generate, though conserving and restoring of the Beidaihe old villas.
