Vessel monitoring system can observe the video information of the external environment and internal cabin of the ship in real time, which help to find accidents, such as machine faults and encountering pirates, and make the connection between vessel and land more convenient. Therefore the research of the vessel video monitoring system is significance to the security of the ship and the informatization of the maritime management. The current video monitoring systems in the vessel only have confined monitory points and transmission distance, have difficulties to expand the system and, besides the monitor software of each system is not available to the other system. To remedy the flaw of these systems, this project design a embedded network video monitoring system based on power line communication.For the channel characteristics of the low-voltage power line in vessel, using OFDM technology and appropriate communications protocol to overcome the difficulties in vessel power line carrier communications. The subject establishes a broadband power line communications network with the vessel low-voltage power line network, to ensure the reliable transmission of the video information on power line; which make the video monitoring system be built or expanded easily without having to lay down additional video transmission line. At the basement of ARM9 microprocessor s3c2410 and the operating system Linux2.6.14, this paper adds the driver of the ZC301P camera and network controller CS8900A to capture and transmit the video of the monitor point; choosing B/S architecture, this paper transplants embedded server Boa, and build streaming media server with servfox; Using java applet programming techniques to write the server home page, which make the client be capable to watch the video cameras through the web browser instantly without any special monitoring software.In this video monitoring system this paper designed, the power line carrier communications is creatively applied to video monitor on ship. The system has advantages such as no additional wiring needed, easy extension, plug and play, along with some monitoring, always online, convenient and safe and so on, and in some certain situations is irreplaceable. Therefore this system is an effective supplement for video monitoring system of the ship.
