As global economics develop worldwide, the range and amount of international trade has been increasingly spreaded. The transportation industry, especially marine shipping business, maintains a rapid growth relevantly. Therefore, great pressure stressed on capabilities of collection and distributing systems in international ports has become a challenge faced on the way of their development. To improve the service level on international cargo transportation, the port managers, as well as governmental institute concerned, are exploring the best way to raise port traffic capabilities. Being one of the most important form in multimodal transportation, sea-rail combined transportation own its advantages in efficiency and energy saving due to the characteristics when connecting the railway on land and marine transport in oceans. With the background mentioned above, the essay aims to discuss the importance of sea-rail combined transportation by fore sighting the future and analyzing the economic strength of it.At the beginning of the essay, multiple conceptions on sea-rail combined transportation are introduced with information about the research concerned both in and beyond China. Then, to reveal the advantages, the 3rd and 4th paragraphs, which is the main body of the essay, focus on respective discussion about the cargo volume forecast through paths of land bridges and comparing analysis between sea-rail transport and other multimodal forms by efficiency and cost occurred when loading changes in the ports. In the 5th paragraph, under hypothesis conditions, the flexible rail track, a new solution for integrated sea-rail transport system, is quoted with a purpose for the application feasibility in the loading changes process. Besides, in the same paragraph, strategic suggestions are made to solve the issue initiated on the way of development, in 2nd and 4th paragraph. In the end. the importance is emphasized again by making an overall conclusion.There are two main points in the essay, to select exclusively the cargo volume in landbridge transportation as the object of forecasting and to figure out measurements to value the benefit sea-land transportation can bring. In the aspect of forecasting. based on the feature shown in the data collected, PGM (1, n) forecasting Model has been chosen in application. On the other hand, from a point of view as efficiency, cost and freight, the comparison with other multimodal forms can be more specified and accurate, thus, to reveal the advantages of sea-rail combined transportation.
