Located in White stone township in Xing'an County in Guilin, Guangxi, the Shuiyuantou village,which is also called Guangxi "Forbidden City ",holds a relative integral ancient building complex. This article will give interpretation about the Shuiyuantou village as a whole, from several aspects including its planning,architecture,public space, and decorative features, and give design proposals based on the protection and development of the ancient village.This article studies the village mainly by site-visitions, depth interviews, data collection, document retrieval, and so on. So far there is not related research about the Shuiyuantou village, so this article is doing basic investigation and it is empirical study. The article also uses the Compare method, by comparing to other villages in North Guangxi even all over the Guangxi,to analyze the characteristics and features of the village.The framework is as follows:in the introduction it describes current research about ancient village and the historical origin of the Shuiyuantou village, starting from chapter II it elaborates andanalyzes the village from its site selection and planning, architecture, public space, architectural detail and decorative features, protection and development. To find the best location,people of the Shuiyuantou village gives special attention to seek out the DragonVenture, observe the river, sclect the surrounding mountains, look for optimal base address and orientation, and other Feng Shui theory; Its Planning and layout emphasize official architectural layout,which is structured and rigorous, also have excellent drainage systems, anti-theft systems, etc.;The style of houses is influenced by central plains cultural, then using the inner and axisymmetric courtyard, house facades is more closed, but internal space is open and circulate, space layout emphasizes ethical order, mourning space and courtyard constitute the core of the internal space; The ancestral hall, space of water source, entrance space of the village etc constitute public space system,which have distinctive characteristics; Architectural decoration is reflected mainly in carving,especially in the the doors, windows and furniture,. The main decorative themes are flower, bird, insect and fish as,and, the carving is concise and elegant; In the end,it gives some related suggestion basing on preliminary study about protection and tourism development of the Shuiyuantou village.And the author wish that the village will been protected effectivlly,been developped plannedly,step by step,moderately.
