With the increasing pressures of global resources and environment, as well as the deepening reform of power market, power grid need to be more secure, reliable, economic and efficient in the future. Thus, it's a common choice for international power industry to work on smart grid, which can meet the economic and social development. Smart grid is the future development trend of electric power system. The concept and function characteristics of smart grid are introduced in this thesis firstly; then the background and present research status of smart grid home and abroad are analyzed in detail. In addition, the profound meaning of strong smart grid of china is elaborated. This thesis investigates the necessity and feasibility of implementing smart grid in China, and points out the key technology and breakthrough. Besides, the importance of intelligent dispatching for smart grid is put forwarded.Because of the expanding scale and marketization of power grid, the structure and operation of power system is getting more and more complicated, which is a great challenge to dispatchers. The performance of dispatching automation system plays a key role in the security and economic operation. Under new situation, the traditional energy management system can not meet the demand of power grid control center, its framework and function must be expanded and improved. The notion of intelligent dispatching is put forwarded, which adapts to the construction of smart grid, and provides a more comprehensive and intelligent decision support for operators.Agent technology, which provides a new way for the design of complex software system, is the research focus in the field of distributed artificial intelligence recently. In this thesis, the intelligent dispatching system based on multi-agent is proposed according to the characteristics of grid dispatching and agent technology. By defining the operation state of power system minutely, the environment that agents live in is constructed; then the mature software of EMS is encapsulated to be agent as function modules of intelligent dispatching system. This thesis develops the architecture of intelligent dispatching system based on multi-agent, studies the function of system modules and designs the workflow of intelligent dispatching system.Smart grid is the development trend of power system. Intelligent dispatching, as an important part of smart grid, is the new development direction of dispatching automation system.
