This paper instructs a wind flow collection system based on practical engineering background, including the theory analysis, design principles of hardware and software etc.Engineering vehicles (such as cranes, excavators, loaders and graders) play a very important role in China's infrastructure construction. In order to enhance the steering and operation of the safety, the installation of air conditioning is of great necessary. The popularization of air conditioning in the engineering vehicles marks the working conditions of ordinary workers, reflecting a country's economic level. So the rate of vehicle air conditioning load continued to improve in recent years. We must understand the internal flow field to ensure the quality of air conditioning. By measuring velocity and flow, we can control it automatically, implement energy management, and thereby ensure the quality and efficiency.This paper mainly designs a kind of velocity collection system of the excavators which is ordered by Caterpillar Company. A new method in measuring the velocity is advanced, based on the pendulum. This method is based on fluid resistance. Through the analysis of fluid status, we can determine the process in pipe is turbulence flow.We collect the pendulum angle under the action of wind power with a camera, acquire the speed through the principles of mechanics, then finally measure the flow value indirectly by using the velocity method.The paper has finished the design of the hardware circuit. Using the eight bit CMOS microcontroller AT89S52 produced by Atmel as the central processing unit, the integrated chip L298 as the driver circuit of the stepping motor, the system uses stepping motor controls its movement in the pipe and gets the pendulum's image.The images which are collected by the cameras are pre-processed, and the directions of the flow are obtained by the Hough transform. By processing the data, the speed and velocity are measured.The system did some flow testing experiments which show good efficiency in wind speed and flow measuring.
