Steel frame-concrete core tube structure is a widely applied high rising structural style in China. Relatively, compared to steel structure, the steel frame-concrete core tube structure is more rigid to transverse load, cheaper in construction; compared to concrete structure, the steel frame-concrete shear wall structure is easier to build and able to reduce structural space. But the research outcome about steel frame-concrete shear wall structure is limited in recent years. In this article, a finite element model on steel frame-core tube structure was established in ABAQUS. This model has been analyzed in elastic response spectrum method under regular earthquake and elastic-plastic dynamics analysis under rare strong earthquake. Several primary research aspects are included in this paper as follow:(1)An elastic analysis model was established and analyzed with response spectrum method in regular earthquake to find out seismic mechanical response, structural behavior and internal force distribution of the steel frame-core tube structure. The elastic earthquake response features could be conducted from these outcomes.(2)According to J. R. Rice's work about metal kinematical hardening plasticity model and Lee. J and G. L. Fenves's work on cyclical concrete damage model, in addition with beam element and Kirchhoff shell element theory, a nonlinear model of steel core tube shear wall structure was built for dynamic analysis in rare strong earthquake.(3)The nonlinear model was analyzed with explicit kinematical integration in nonlinear time history analysis. The deformation of steel frame and concrete core tube was conducted to demonstrate the seismic plastic deformation on the structure. And internal force and reaction force time histories are able to illustrate the seismic loading transfer between steel frame and concrete core tube. According to these outcomes a lot of useful conclusion could be produced to instruct steel frame-concrete core tube structure designing in future.
