With the development of regional economy integration, metropolis circle whose core is big city will participate in the international competition. And this is the trend of future economic development. As the most important part of Big Chengdu Economic Circle, South Sichuan will communicate with the Economic Zone of Chengdu Plain more frequently, aiming at forming a reasonable industrial layout. As a result, Big Chengdu Economic Circle will be formed with Chengdu as its center. However, the uneven pace of economic development, especially the imbalance of the economic scale of the two sub economic-zones, will result in insufficient capacity for economic zone development. Consequently, it is necessary to accelerate the economic development of South Sichuan and to strengthen the leading role of Chengdu in order to ease the economic imbalance between Chengdu and South Sichuan in the one or two decades. Inter-city rail transit facilitates the travelling of passengers greatly and can strengthen the communication among center cities.The transport demand among the cities have been analysed by using the gray system theory, macroscopic and microcosmic economics principles and system engineering theory. The disadvantages of the existing transit network have been analyed, consequently, it is necessary to construct inter-city rail transit in South Sichuan agglomeration. At last, the layout and alignement of rails have been disscussed as well as the transport organization.The content of the thesis is as follows:First of all, the conception and theory relating to urban agglomeration and inter-city rail transit have been presented as well as its effect on the reginal economy and social development. In addition, the planning of inter-city rail transit within three urban agglomerations has also been introduced. Secondly, the reginal economy of South Sichuan urban agglomeration has been analysed. The passenger transport demand has been analysed, including the analysis of inter-city passenger flow and the prediction of the passenger flow. The existing traffic network of the south region of Sichuan has been analyzed, pointed out that the existing network can not meet the current and future passenger demanded, the construction of highly active passenger network has been proposed in the third part. In the fourth part, the specific conditions of the inter-city rail transit lines in south Sichuan urban have been discussed. What's more, the construction of regional integration and cycle-layer has been put forward by using the theory of point, line and plane, and the setting up of routes. Additionally, the line alignment and condition of station layout have been studied as well as the organization of transportation.
