Reconfigurable manufacturing system (RMS) is a type of variable manufacturing system,which is cost-effective and quick responsive to unpredictable market changes by reconfiguring its internal components. It's especially applicable to those enterprises whose production models are small batch, multi-type, mixed flow and batch. The facilities layout planning and designing is a key technology in the construction of RMS. It's very important to operation management and workshop production. The rapid reconfigurability of RMS means its facilities layout problem is different from traditional layout problem. The key point to research facilities layout problem of RMS is how to formulate the reasonable layout reconfiguring scheme and realize it rapidly in the shorter time. Once the technology gets breakthrough, the manufacturing system can be improved to support the concurrent design of products; the investment of manufacturing system can be reduced by repeated using the existing or idle facilities; the enterprises can formulate fully flexible manufacturing strategy to realize fast production and improve satisfaction of customers. Therefore, it will make great practical significance to study the facilities layout planning technology of RMS. This thesis based on a reconfigurable manufacturing execution system development project of a typical discrete manufacturing enterprise in Chengdu. And main content can be summarized as follows:Firstly, after analyzing the related concepts, contents and present research situation at home and abroad of RMS and its facilities layout problem, the features, key techology and feasible procedures to facilities layout problem are summarized. Simultaneously, a research method based on computer aided and software platform supported is put forward. This method solves the problem in partition and integrates these sub-problems to applicaiton.Secondly, according to the established method and procedures, the three sub-problems of facilities layout problem are solved ordinally. Theory of Constraint Programming and Natural Constraint Language (NCL) are used to model the production planning sub-problem and a heuristic search technology is used to optimize it. The System Layout Planning method (SLP) and computer aided layout software are applicated to design and simulate the layout scheme of a new workshop; Based on the Theory of Constraints Programming, facilities layout reconfiguring between production cycles is modeled and solved. Simultaneously, the results of sub-problems are applicated on the RMES project timely to improve their feasibility.Finally, a facilities layout optimization system of RMS is designed. This system integrates three functional modules and also realizes visualization and quadratic optimization. The Conclusion summarizes the main content of the thesis, and discusses some deficiencies and further work should be solved in future.
