Intersection is the joint of road network, which plays an important role in road capacity and service. To improve the traffic capacity and reduce parking and delaying in the intersection are the goals of urban road traffic. On urban road network in China, the traffic condition is characterized by high volumes of pedestrians and bicycles. In such mixed traffic condition, pedestrians and non-motors (mainly bieycles) have significant effects on vehicular capacities of signalized intersections. Therefore, it is imperative to further investi-gate into the theories and methods for capacity calculations under mixed-traffic conditions, in order to provide a theoretical basis for alleviating traffic congestion, as well as technical guidance for traffic operations and facility designs. This dissertation centers on the theories and methods for calculating capaeity of signalized intersections with mixed-traffic, taking into account the characteristics and conflicting mechanisms of the mixed traffic flows on urhan roads in China. Firstly, the existing relevant researches were reviewed, eategorized, and analyzed in perspectives of methodologies and model developments, which lays groundwork for further research in this dissertation. Secondly, the methods of computing capacity of signalized intersection are introduced, which are HCM2000 method, parking Line method. Then accounting for the conflicting mechanisms in mixed traffic conditions, the analytical models were proposed based on gapacceptance and probability theory to quantify the effects of pedestrians and non-motors on capacity of signalized intersections. And then, the methods to aggregate the effects of pedestrians and non-motors were detailed. At last, use VISSIM to simulate and calibrated the simulation mode. Then analyzes and compared the results of method with other calculations(such as HCM2000). The conclusions are of great significance for further research to develop a simulation system.
