With the expansion of power grid scale, the reliability and security of modern power system is increasingly depending on the power system control technology. As the base of power grid control system, substation automation system will play a key role.At present, most substation automation systems are distributed substation automation systems. In these systems, the traditional electromagnetic transformers are widely used. The arrangement mode of secondary system which has a complicated wiring is unit gap. The devices are mutual independent between each other and lack overall coordination and function optimization. In these systems, the information also cannot share between each device, then, the "information island" can easy to be formed. This kind of substation automation system is difficultly expanded. In order to solve these problems, the IEC61850 substation automation system communication standard has been made by the International Electrotechnical Commission which is greatly promoting the construction of digital substations.In this thesis, the development situation and design principles of substation automation system are introduced. The architecture and deficiency of conventional centralized, hierarchical distributed substation automation system are analyzed. Then, the technical features and the architecture of digital substation based on IEC61850 standard are introduced. The technologies of unconventional transformer, merging unit and intelligent breaker which are used to sampling data and controlling in process layer are analyzed. In this thesis, the basic networking technology of digital substation is introduced. The point to point communication, the process bus communication and the station bus communication of digital substation are analyzed. The schemes of network redundant configuration are detailed analyzed. Then, the thesis emphatically introduces the SNTP and IEEE 1588 protocol time calibration mechanism. In this thesis, the methods and concrete steps of modeling actual IED device in IEC61850 standard are detailed analyzed. Finally, the thesis models a specific device named WDB-892 which is a power transformer protection device in substation. Finally an reconstructive design scheme of digital substation are proposed based on NAN TA 110kV substation in Si Chuan.
