Ecological protection bank is the connecting belt between river ecosystem and continental ecosystem. It is necessary to assess the health of ecological revetment correctly and objectively determined. Nine river revetments were selected in Huairou area of Beijing as research sites. The criteria of revetment classification were summarized and revetment types were established. The revetments soil and water conservation effects were analyzed using artificial rainfall experiment. Meanwhile, on the basis of the slope function, the comprehensive evaluation index system of ecological revetments was built up. the health situation of eight ecological revetments were assessed by using the methods of AHP and the comprehensive evaluation index. The results show that:soil bio-engineering measures provided soil and water conservation effects in early stage; natural herbs revetment, artificial turf revetment and six-edge-tile revetment reduced runoff and sediment significantly; artificial tree revetment had lest runoff and sediment reducing effects; the index of health of soil bio-engineering measures (cutting, buried root, shoot bundles, scrub pad, willow fence wall), natural herbs revetment, artificial turf revetment were on a healthy situation, and six-edge-tile revetment was on a sub-healthy situation. The paper is hoped to offer a measurability and comparability reference for ecological revetment function research.
