Building Emergency Lights Based On Power Line Carrier Communication

In recent years, the extent and complicity of constructions are continuously rising in China, which give rise to the prevailing of building emergency lights. The majority types of the emergency lights in China are independently controlled. The large amount of emergency lights in the building arouses problems on how to control and maintain them. They need to be checked one by one during the maintenance, which in return brings about the possibility of blind spots in the building. On the other hand, these types of emergency lights are limited to the pre-set indicating routes, unable to optimize the indicating strategy according to the changing circumstances during fire emergency. The other types of the products in China are dedicated to centralized-control ones. The common communication channels of them are specialized cables as Twist-Pair which raises the construction cost. Especially, to some already completed buildings, the re-construction of the cables may be unacceptably difficult and may cause the damage of the existing structure.The following thesis presents a system of building emergency lights based on LonWorks power line carrier which controls the management and maintenance of the emergency lights, including the main functions as below: the setup and detection of the status of the lights, the detection of the battery status of the back-up power supply, the real-time adjustment of indicating routes, the automatic communication with other detection devices. Rather than other control networks, LonWorks net supports power line carrier, which enables the system to communicate by exiting power lines in the building instead of specialized cable. The system is optimized to realize the centralized control of building emergency lights, meanwhile greatly reduced the maintenance and construction cost.
