A Research On The Relation Between The Open Space And The Spatial Structure Of Bengbu Municipality

In recent years, with the steady advancement of urbanization process and the rapid development of small and medium-sized cities, city, politics, economy and infrastructure construction have made great progress. However, for a long period of time, China has put the economic growth in the first place in urban development, ignoring the importance of open spaces, such as natural landscape, urban green spaces and parks, in urban development. Blind urbanization has undermined the ecological environment and the original urban scale of human comfort, making them lack characteristics and humanity.On the premise of consultation of related documents and making on-the-spot investigation, this thesis aims to make a comprehensive and systematic research on the open spaces and the urban spatial structure of Bengbu Municipality. This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter introduces the objective and significance of the research, and defines the scope, contents and methods of the research. Chapter 2 defines relevant concepts---open space, urban spatial structure---, introduces basic theories and development tendency. Chapter 3 reviews the open space development in Chinese and western cities, summing up the relation between open space and urban spatial structure. Chapter 4 researches on the open space and urban spatial structure in Bengbu, and makes a detailed discussion of research results. Chapter 5 advances the guiding principles, policies and proposals on the design and organization of the open space and the optimization of the urban spatial structure in Bengbu. Chapter 6 advances the guiding principles, policies and proposals on the design and organization of the open space and the optimization of the urban spatial structure for other small and medium-sized cities.The research results may provide reference and help for Bengbu to construct open space with high quality and favorable urban spatial structure. At the same time, it has certain reference value to the development of open space design and urban spatial structure in other small and medium-sized cities. This thesis gives some inspirations to further researches on the integrated construction in the small and medium-sized cities.
