The rapid development of urban traffic provides a powerful support to the economic progress, but the problem of energy shortage and traffic congestion have become increasingly prominent. At the present stage, the study of traffic energy consumption almost concentrates on qualitative analysis, which lacks systematic theoretical model to compare energy consumption of different transport modes. Therefore it is meaningful for the better development of urban traffic to research on energy consumption of different transport modes. This dissertation relies on projects of "different modes of transportation energy consumption and emission factors of comparable research" and "ease road congestion blocking measures for survey research", based on Beijing traffic trip data, applying multi-discipline knowledge comprehensively, such as significant, traffic engineering, traction simulation. Compared the energy consumption about car, bus and rail transportation. The following are the main aspects of the research.1.Comparative studies on characteristics of different transport modes such as speed and occupying area. The research on urban traffic and energy consumption at home and abroad mainly focused on the construction of urban transportation infrastructure facilities, transportation energy saving policy, which lacks energy consumption of different transport modes.2.Analyze impact factors on energy consumption of different transport modes. Impact factors of car mainly focus on vehicle performance, road traffic conditions, passenger load factor and the driver. The energy consumption of metro is decided by vehicle features, marshalling, line condition and volume of passenger travel. According to the principle of comparability, this dissertation chosen kilogram standard coal per person kilometer.3.Calculate the energy consumption about cars, buses and urban railway transportation. Based on Beijing's traffic trip data, chose the typical models of cars and buses, and then calculate the energy consumption on different passenger rates. The energy consumption of urban railway transportation is acquired from traction simulation.4.Compare energy consumption of different transport modes. Under the same occupancy rate, energy consumption of car is 8 to 10 times as much as motorbus, and the energy consumption of urban railway transport system is 50%-80% as much as the motorbus. Energy consumption decreased with the increase of occupancy rate. Compared the energy consumption under two city transportation structure scenarios: transit-oriented structure and car-oriented structure, the dissertation puts forward a proposal of optimizing urban transport structure and increasing the development intensity of urban public transport.
